World famous graffiti artist/emcee Rammellzee died today. I am posting up a couple of his songs for anyone who has never heard them. Get more familiar with him HERE and the story of "Beat Bop" HERE. Rammellzee vs K-Rob - Beat Bop
Michael Prophet's Love & Unity is one of my favorite songs ever. It was Mixed by Scientist and The Roots Radics is the backing band. It is the original vocal track to "Your Teeth In My Neck" on Scientist's dub LP, Scientist Rids The World of The Evil Curse of The Vampires which was the album used for the K-JAH Radio on Grand Theft Auto 3.
If you don't know about the 1971 LP on Musicor Records from S.O.U.L. entitled What Is It, you're not as up on thangs as you thought you were. S.O.U.L. is one of the funkiest bands ever with Paul Stubblefield on drums, Walter Winston on guitar, Gus Hawkins on bass & Lee Lovett on vocals and flute. #drumbreaks #heavyfunk
This is the first single off the Ohio Players 1969 first full length LP Observations In Time. Very soulful joint. Sounds nothing like their later stuff.
1968 soul on the Zudan label out of St. Louis. The band members are from STL but the song was recorded in Detroit with the backing band consisting of members of Parliament / Funkadelic. The lead singer currently lives in East St. Louis. The song was also sampled for Black Milk's "Try".
